I had the EMG Zakk Wylde set (active EMG 81's and 85's) put in my new Jackson Rhoads and I am getting a buzzing noise when I touch the tone and volume nobs, as well as the screws for the pickguard. Is this normal? Did the guitar tech screw it up somehow? I also can't get 100% shutoff on the volume when I turn it down. There is also a "record player" type noise when I have some of the knobs set in certain places. Is this stuff normal?

Active pickups buzz a little more then normal ones.
Possible problems are:

>Guitar is not earthed properly
>Amp is wired to the same circuit as flourescant lights
>The lead may not be shielded properly
>The guitar is too close to the amp or another electronic device is interfering

Does it happen with any other guitars?
If the volume dosen't shut off completely, there may be some faulty wiring or a bad pot. It should have less buzz when the volume is full. It should stop buzzing (or buzzing gets quieter) when you touch a metal part of the guitar.

Sounds to me like a grounding problem and a wireing problem (perhaps just a sloppy job). I have the same pups as you and mine are completely silent. ACTIVE PICKUPS DON'T BUZZ MORE THAN PASSIVE ONES. The wireing is just screwy. DON'T mess with it yourself, take it back to be redone. Make sure that they will do it for free, cause they screwed it up.
