Have any of you guys and gals known anyone who has successfully submitted their screenplay to an agency with any luck?

Yes.

A while ago we sent a comedy to 6 production houses.

One phoned to arrange a meeting.

They didn't want what we written (Nothing wrong with it but it's typical) what they did want was scripts for Griff Rhys Jones and Mel Smith. (Hmmm longer ago than I think biggrin.gif)

We didn't didn't think they were good enough or funny so we didn't bother.
Life is like a musical by Andrew Lloyd-Webber. Very popular and not as bad as some would have you believe. That is, unspeakably awful but mercifully brief.

I've finally completed a screenplay that I began work on nearly 8 months ago. Gotham Group has expressed interest, as well as William Morris Agency. I was recommended to get a literary agent as well as a lawyer. huh.gif

Yeah, I'd get a lawyer for sure. That seems like the kind of thing you could easily get screwed over on.

Yeah they recommended some guy named Ivan Hoffman. An entertainment lawyer of some kind. I dont wanna drop a few G's if I don't have to. The wife didnt like the idea either.

i guess it's alright if people are already interested. that could save you the cost of an agent, who would normally shop your stuff around for you. but unless you can feel comfortable with the sort of contract that industry would come up with, i think it'd be worth the cost of the lawyer in the end. hopefully he'll secure you a deal that makes you enough cash so you won't even notice his fees.

Yeah I just dont want to fork over the dough. Most of these entertainment lawyers charge $250-400 an hour. AN HOUR.

I wrote one a while back about a theme park with living dinosaurs. Sent it off, but never heard back. Mustn't have been workable.

Mine's very much like Sin City...or 300...or The Spirit. Very Frank Miller-esque.

I wrote a random one off a while back, wanting to write for TV. Several companies got in touch wanting me to write for one of the the biggest duos in TV sketch comedy. I decided not to bother. laugh.gif
