Verse:

His mama told him someday he would be a man,
And he would be the leader of a big old band.
Many people coming from miles around
To hear him play his music when the sun go down
Maybe someday his name would be in lights
Saying Johnny B. Goode tonight.

Chorus:

Bb
Go Go, Go Johnny Go
Bb
Go Go, Go Johnny Go
Eb
Go Go, Go Johnny Go
Bb
Go Go, Go Johnny Go
F
Go Go
Bb
Johnny B. Goode.........[/tab]

I have a couple of intro-tabs in both Bb and A. The chorus thing (if you mean the "Go go, go Johnny go...part) is pretty much just a slide on the 1 and 2 strings, played against the I-IV-V chord changes. Anyway, maybe this will help a little....

i was wondering who this Johnny B. Goode fella is actually...

is this guy real?

The person the tune was actually written about was Chuck Berry's piano player, Johnny Johnson. Johnnny is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and has played and toured with the Stones, McCartney, etc as well as many other famous and not-so-famous rock'n'roll and blues-bands over the years besides Chuck's. This past July I was fortunate enough to be able to do a gig with Johnny. It was a very special thing for me. Almost fifty years ago hearing that tune is what made me decide that someday I would play guitar like that. We did a "pick-up" gig. It was not planned very far in advance and was rapidly put together, relying on the fact that we all knew enough tunes in common to pull off three sets for the gig. We chose tunes in rotation we each figured the others were likely to be able to play.... "Rock Me Baby"; "Dust My Broom"; etc. On my first chance to choose, I said "How 'bout "Johnny B. Goode?" and looked over at Johnny. He winked at me and said "I might be able to handle that one." I went into the intro as nervous as the first time I did a gig almost, certain I was gonna blow that intro I'd played so many times before in front of "The Man" himself (luckily I didn't). He virtually killed with his boogie-woogie piano. I'd played with some pretty big-time guys before, but it was like, in my musical life, I had finally come full-circle. From the kid listening to that recording back in the late fifties thinking "someday....", to standing there on a stage playing that same exact tune with "Johnny" himself. Kind of hard to explain I guess. Later, like the true groupie I am ( ) I asked Johnny to autograph my old beat-up Chess 45 rpm single of the tune. I'm looking at it in a frame on my wall now. I did a long post on the gig in some forum or other back in July after I got back into town from doing the gig.

Yes, Virginia.... er....I mean Tapelator. There is a Johnny B. Goode!
