From a song about S&M, by a woman whose boyfriend smashed her face in.

Half my co-workers listen to such shit, and mock me for listening to music with actual words. Even if it's music with actual words from this year.

I had quite a long argument in the pub last week when someone tried to tell me I listened to "shite, weird stuff". Y'know, the kind of music written and performed by the artists themselves - people who can actually play instruments and don't autotune their vocals.

It bothers me that these are people I generally like, too. Why are so many otherwise intelligent people totally fucking blinded by the music media?

I've had these arguments with them dozens of times. They mock anyone who made music before about 2001 (although at our Christmas party they were all dancing and singing along to "I Saw Her Standing There"). One of them thought that the Celine Dion version of "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" was the original. And they seem to think that the lyrics to that fucking Black Eyed Peas song are somehow brilliantly original, despite the fact they're the same 15 banal words repeated over and over again.

And yes, the autotuning issue has come up as well, but they reckon it makes songs sound better... I give up with them. At least I have some colleagues who agree with me.

I think Chris Brown was just doing a bit of panel-beating, for aesthetic purposes.

Still, Rihanna's better than Lady Gaga. At least she doesn't think wearing a telephone as a hat is a substitute for a personality.

The argument that Burton has just outlined is far more pathetic with my colleagues, considering we all work in a music store. My manager genuinely believes that Michael Buble is this generations Sinatra.
