I'm all for social programs when they work and I know there are massive flaws in the system, but it hurts a bit more when the blow is so close to home...

A girl I used to work with at the youth shelter...counseling children...was completely unstable. The was no way she should have been working with children, but that's another story. The story is that would tell pity stories for hours about how terrible her life is and how fucked up in her brain she has always been.

Extremely annoying. I quit and moved on.

Shortly after I quit, my insurance/COBRA got fucked up and I was left with a few thousand dollars in medical bills that my insurance should have covered.

Shit happens. I've been without insurance for well over a year.

I legitimately lost my job this summer and qualified for unemployment. Unemployment is supposed to keep you at 80% of what you were making so you can continue living your life.

I had to move to afford living...period.

I talked to the crazy girl from the shelter tonight. She told me that she'd been on disability for over half a year because she was crazy. It's more than enough to afford her lifestyle and her medical bills. She even gets health insurance due to it.

How is this fair? I know there are flaws all over the system...a system that if it were to fall, my line of work would be devastated... But it can't be this bad. Can it?!

Okay. I just really had to get that out. Christshitfuckcocksuckingassholemotherfucker.

You think it's unfair that someone who needs more help than you, gets more help than you?

Clearly, mental disability isn't actually a disability.
And say why it never worked on me.
Something to do with violence
A long way back, and wrong rewards,
And arrogant eternity.

To get high in the Republican party camp you must bow down and serve Molech at the Bohemian Grove. Just like Nixion, Regean Bush Sr and Jr.

You actually believe that, don't you?

You know what's awesome? If a mentally retarded person becomes the child of a parent, they get lots of money from the government.

For them, it pays to be retarded and make bad choices.

Youre a likeable guy, but that was a stupid and ugly post.

It's frustrating for me because I work with children in low income families. Seeing these children consistently mistreated and given very little chance from the get-go is very grating at times. I just don't understand how we can essentially reward these people for making bad choices. Mental illness or not. If you're mentally ill to the point of not being able to work and support yourself, then you should by no means be having children, let alone being given stipends from the government.

I may have been a bit blunt in my previous post though, so if that offended anyone, I apologize for that.

I guess you could think of it like this:

You're down on your luck right now, but should get back on your feet.
She will always be crazy.

Take your pick as to which you'd rather be.

Mentally ill people shouldn't have kids? Shouldn't be allowed? Where are we going with this?

Rather, their child rearing shouldn't be supported by the government/taxpayers.

Disabled people (who have a legit reason not to work) should not have help to rear children, whereas perfectly able bodied people who are too lazy to get off their bottoms should get help?

No, you said disabled people shouldn't have help raising children. Funny thing is, some disabilities mean that people can't work, and therefore couldn't afford to have children. So are you saying those people who are disabled and can't work don't have the right to have children?

@ Sixy:

I'm not judging them for having children. They can do whatever the hell they want. I'd just prefer it were not on my money.

Besides, if I were to judge mentally ill people, I'd be judging every one of my family members (myself included,) albeit of a different sort (depression/anxiety/ADHD/alcoholism.)
