Why not have a User Ranking system? I have seen other sites where members are required to have an average registration span and post number in order to access certain parts of the forum, like 100 posts and none of it spam before they can post in a classifieds or news sections so they can't spam the forums. It pretty much eliminated spam bots completely on a couple of forums I visit and I notice that from time to time some random person will find a Google search result for a topic in any of the forums here and instantly register, bump it and never appear again. There needs to be a way to reduce the amount of spam as well as moderator work clearing out all the crap.

One I visit frequently called MMO Champion prevents anyone under 50 posts from putting up links or images which while it is a nuisance for those who don't post frequently, on such a high traffic website as that with a large moderating team with about 4 mods per forum and there are roughly 20 sections to it, there is zero spam. Granted they don't use Invision Power Board, but it works.

As far as I'm concerned spambots are not as annoying as they were before *knocks on wood*

And thanks for the reports!

Well it's generally not as bad, but the fact is that some spam posts remain up for days before getting removed. It would be cool if Rob implemented a feature that gave a warning message and prevented people from actually posting with images and links to those with less than 100 posts.

I'm all for it, if it helps.

I'll also take this opportunity to ask Rob (again) to clear out the inactive mods from each forum, and replace them with some new blood. There are some really good members on GTU these days, who would be more than willing to do it, and do it properly.

He won't do it. He doesn't want them to feel unwelcome if they ever come back.

If we did that then we wouldn't need any mods.
