for some reason, i suspect the psu flashing then stopping working, my laptop now refuses to see the cd drive. the drive is working ok, you put a disc in, it spins around and reads it but if you go to my computer all you see are the hard disc partitions. im on vista if that helps. do any of you clever cats know what i should do to resume normal album burning services?

ok im in the divice manager and thats saying "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"

whats a code 10?

so i uninstall the last bit of software i put on it and next restart its magically sees it again. damn you LG phone updating software, damn you to hell.

edit: its still not propper right though

no its not there again. its not installing the drivers for it (does it have to do that every time it boots up?). fuck it i'll just have to do with out till i can afford a new comp

Do you have Itunes installed on your computer? If so follow the following steps: search "remove upper and lower filters" in google.

You should be directed into the Registry;

Start> search for "regedit" (wait for it to populate and then right click, choose to run as administrator)
Then follow these steps pricisely, do not delete anything that I do not advise you to delete as this can very easily damage your operating system

It is very easy, just intimidating:
1) hkey_local_machine
2) system
3) Current Controlset
4) Control
5) Class
6) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
7) in the right hand window delete "Upperfilters" and "Lower Filters"

Close it out and DONE.

Turn off your laptop, remove the battery and hold the power button for 45 seconds.

Return the battery and power on.

Your CD/DVD Drive will have returned.

If this doesnt help then we should assume that your hardware is bad.

google how to remove and replace the drive on your computer (usually one screw on teh bottom of the notebook under the cover and barely to the side of your HDD mounts. Usually there is one bolt off to the side of the top left corner screw holding the Mouting Bracket.)

thanks pal, im sure it would have worked but alas after the cd drive returned, an intermittent power failure started to happen. this reset the memory on my battery so it was allways empty - sure it could have been the power supply and i could have replaced the battery, but with it being four years old i just thought upgrade muhahaha. nice of you to admit your geekness for me though mate
