OOoh, I take off for a while and come back and see there is actually some intelligent debate happening at GTU, there is hope for us yet!

My two cents now, Religion and culture can influence each other. However, I have no religion, and no influence from it growing up. But I do have culture - albeit I don't really know how to define Canadian culture at all, but other than it may be an accepting of differing views and religions, and the need to apologize constantly so as not to offend others or have others think you are a bigot.

But I do think that religion has influenced other cultures. Anyone who says Holy F.uck can't argue with that. Even my own culture of celebrating Christmas and a fat man in a red suit. That came from religion too.

But has culture influenced religion?

Culture creates religion in the first place. If Christianity were created from scratch today do you think it would be the same?

No, it doesn't make them bigots for practicing a different culture, especially in their own country. The fact that they are sending a women to the Olympics is very progressive, and I hope she does well, because it may help them move forward with respect to women's rights if she comes home a national hero.

I think the term bigot should be used on a less broad scale, or more of an individual basis. For example, I had two saudi room mates a few years back, and they were not bigots, they accepted our culture in Canada, living in a communal homestay with women who were educated, working, and wearing what ever they please, they never condemned us. Although the washroom sharing, no use of toilette paper, water splashed all over the counters incidences were hard to cope with for myself. But heck, they even went to the strip club with my lesbian room mate. How is that for progression - and sport!

This is very true wOOdy. This guy seems to think the bible suports this, and is his reason for believing this.

The same guy speaks in tougues and claims to be able to cast out Demons and heal the sick. (I think he's mad, but he thinks i am).

as the son of god, what with the holy trinity being all one thing with different aspects, i'd say that the instructions in 1 Samuel 15:3 indicate that at least this once he was for some murdering.

the bible is so inconsistent you can't just take it one way. for every good bit of advice about loving your family there's something about killing your neighbour.
