Its ok, no real surprises save for one. worth the price of admission, but nowhere near as good as The Dark Knight. It doesn't redefine anything.

I've seen it twice, first time through I was disappointed with how formulaic it was. There's also a distinct lack of a stand out character. I felt even when telling the story of a team at least one character needs a discernible arc. Think Wolverine in the first X-men. Robin from How I met your mother is in it. I didn't like that. Scarlett Johansson is marginally better than she was in Iron Man II but still annoying. Hawkeye got ripped off in terms of screen time. Everyone else played well together and the Hulk was finally awesome. three cheers for Mark Ruffalo...never thought I'd say that. Loki is less defined as a villain this time and doesn't really bring anything new to the table. pity

the second time around all expectations were gone and I was free to just enjoy the movie knowing full well what to expect. There's actually a lot to like and very fun to watch.

Welp, I'm sold. I was gonna see it either way because it's Loki, but it's nice to hear it wasn't Batman & Robin-ed.

I thought it was good. Though, I didn't see much of the other preceding films and my brain was still a bit fried.

i was so happy with what they did with Hawkeye. he's such a lame character if they'd tried to have him in it too much he'd just bring the whole movie down. Hulk is normally lame like that too but it's nice he was mostly like a weapon or else comic relief in this one. it's really the first time that someone who knows about comics was allowed to make one of these movies and i thought it was great for that. also for all the little Joss Whedon-y bits. that last scene is classic Whedon in the best way.

I wouldn't say Dark Knight redefined anything, despite it being a good film. I would also say that Avengers certainly was more fun to watch than DK.

Loved it. I liked that there weren't any stand out characters. Everyone shared the load. Robin was hot. Agreed, Scarlett was better. The Hulk was awesome, and truly unsettling when he first turned. I also thought Loki was better in this one. He really stepped up his menace and refined his character a bit.

Joss Whedon did it right.

My expectations during my initial viewing were too high. I knew that pretty early on. I also knew I'd have to watch it again before I settled on a verdict.

I feel The Dark Knight transcended the superhero genre. It was more than a superhero flick. It was grounded in and driven entirely by the characters and their motivations...their methodology towards goals..
This was bubble gum pop at its best. Which is good.

Loki in the first one had a Shakespearean grudge. We understood every step of his motivations. Thats the flick where he was "Burdened with glorious purpose"
In this one, why does he suddenly decide to rule a planet he never cared anything about? he was less defined as a character and more of a cookie cutter villain.

Fair enough. It may have been that he had a more sympathetic character in Thor. In The Avengers, he was more just straight up evil.

While I appreciate the depth of character that came with his first depiction, I found him to be a more effective villain in The Avengers.
