Soooooo, I've never bought a car from a dealership. I'm probably going to be getting a 98 Subaru in a couple months when I get home, I'm curious about what it's like going through a dealer rather than private party. Anyone care to drop some knowledge?

Shouldn't be too much of a difference if you're buying used. You might be able to get a better deal if you go private, but there's no guarantees. Dealerships usually have some sort of warranty or somesuch attached which is always nice in case anything goes wrong.

Seriously, check out this beast. All wheel drive? Heated seats? Power everything? And legitimate alloy rims, not that plastic cap bullshit like my previous cars.

Only down side is it's only got a cassette player/radio. Whatever. I'mma get satelite radio in that biatch. WHAT.

That's only because you no longer have a left testicle due to a power window. Otherwise they're quite nice.

That's an odd thing to hate. So much convenience.

That's like saying you hate TV remotes. I heard the inventor of the remote died the other day.. I wonder if there were any 'power off' jokes at his funeral.

I don't mind them when they work. It's just that they stop working so frequently.

I could see some serious Need for Speed Underground pimp shit goin' on for that thing. I don't generally like glittery, lit up, nitro packed, lawnmower sounding cars like that, though. More of a Midnight Blue, silver trimmed El Camino guy.

It seems to be a real class act car. Something that I'll be able to hang on to for a few years and then sell and still get at least half of my investment back. AWD is going to come in real handy next winter. I haven't driven in the snow in 3 years, so it'll take some re-acclimation.

The awd system is amazing. Far superior to conventional 4wd. I could explain the difference, but it's very boring. I had mine for six years. When i sold it, it was 17 years old and it had never gone wrong in all that time. The build quality is on a par with BMW.

I get what you're saying, Dave, however after living in Southern California the last 3 years that doesn't mean what you want it to mean. In San Diego, there's probably 200 half-broken BMW's sitting up for sale because people break them (probably doing stupid shit) and then can't afford to fix them.

All the leather seats look like they're in pretty good condition. I swear, this car is made for people that live in the north - all the reviews I'm reading say what a great car it is for winter weather.

With used car dealerships It usually involves some form of warranty, but be weary, the guy who sold us ours was full of &$#% when he told us that.

We bought our dodge neon from a used car lot last year, looking to trade in on a chevy express van. We were only offered 40% of the value for the van and chose not to do a trade in, but we did find a car. We got a 2004 with only 40K km's for 5000$, but within a month we had to have a sensor replaced, and the tires were not aligned, the car was pulling to the right. We also had a heck of a time getting the guy to give us our receipt. Shady.

My step father worked at dealerships when I was growing up, and they are not all shady, that I am sure of. I say, so with reviews when choosing a place to do business.

Make sure you kick the tyres, that's important. Also call the dealer when he's at a funeral in the Czech Republic, that's what I did.
