I had my car parked on base before I deployed last December. It was sitting in an out of the way lot, but I asked one of my friends to move it while I was gone just in case. He never moved it, it got towed in February racking up an impound bill of over 4000 dollars until last month when it "cleared lean" and the towing company took ownership.

I think I'm still in shock, I really don't know what the hell I'm supposed to do about this. I'm not even really mad yet, except that I had a bunch of stuff in the trunk that I packed away before I deployed.

That's sad, though. I imagine losing a vehicle is a lot like losing a home. There there, bro. There there.

I don't even remember what all I had in the trunk. I remember tossing at least one bag of clothes that I didn't feel like bringing on deployment (still good clothes, though) and my desktop. One of my skateboards was in there. The trunk was pretty much full, I dunno.

I can't believe they even towed it. This is a military base for fucks sake, people deploy.

That's just it though, isn't it. A lot of people deploy, and there just wouldn't be enough parking space to accommodate an entire army even if you demolished a small city and paved it over. Look on the bright side though, at least you still have a side arm.

They don't give us weapons unless we're actively protecting assets or in a hot zone. Also, there are plenty of long term parking lots available that they could have chosen to move it to. They could have at least contacted me so I could have someone pick it up from impound. This is ridiculous.

talk to an attorney. the initial consultation is usually free and worst case scenario they'll tell you that you don't have a case.

I'm in the military, we have a law office on base for free (mostly). They're closed for the weekend and I fly home on monday for a week and a half. Don't care, I'd rather see my family than deal with a lawyer right now.

Yeah, I just found out yesterday. Even if they couldn't reach me on the phone number on my title, base security should have had my ships phone number and a contact email. I should have been notified of the tow. I might be able to build a case.

I laugh about it now. I'm really not that upset about it, even after a night to mull it over. Just one of those things. If I can get get my stuff back, that'd be cool though.
