Ok im just starting out with a bass have a couple friends with generic ones like crest wood and some other "blank" basses my question is are parts universal so to speek like if i was givin a cheapy bass with no name could i buy name brand or well known parts like pick ups bridge ect would they fit or does each manf use different parts like ford to chevy

Good question.


If I understand you correctly, it seems you're asking if you can install, let's say, a set of EMG pickups on a cheap bass picked up for say 50 quid.


The answer is yes, you can, and YES you will make it sound better. Any guitar is pretty much customisable in any aspect. Whether or not such customisations add to the resale value of the guitar depends on what was customised. For example, if you added a set of £200 pickups to a £100 guitar, in my opinion, the guitar would still only be worth £100, as I would rather buy a new guitar with the pickups already included. Just my opinion.

yeah, if you're going to start spending money and don't really know much about the instrument, you're better off just spending it on a decent bass now. definitely fool around with a beater bass if you want; just don't expect it to be worth anything as neal said.
