I just bought an old MacBook for a couple hundred bucks, never having owned a non-PC laptop. I really bought it to have my iphone/ipad synced properly but also for GarageBand because it's fun to play with.

Do you rate Apple?  This doesn't have to be limited to the computers.  I know a lot of people who despise Apple but there's obviously a lot of people who swear by them.

Geeks, descend!

My problem with Apple is that they're not so slowly phasing out any products that are compatible with non-Apple stuff.. Like if you by one Apple thing, suddenly you have to buy Apple everything for it all to work together.

Annoying.

My experience with Apple is a small computer my dad bought in 2002 that we ended up mostly using to run a WinXP clone. It was shit and everyone hates it. Because my parents are old and think tech never becomes obsolete they still use it.

Beyond that I deal with approximately 400 iPhones at work that we're replacing with Android because they're overpriced and underperforming.

It's like the ease of use of Apple, I hate the fact I'm having to learn all the macros.

They truly are a triumph of branding, though.

PC for the most part, but I do still rock an ancient iPod or two for portable tunage because...well they aren't broken yet and I'm still not down with getting a phone. Also, I'm cheap. Very, very cheap.

PC/Android. I can't justify paying so much more money for so much less device.

I have been PC all my life. However, Windows 8 was fucking trash. 10 is better, but I still don't like it. Based on what I use my computer for - media, both recording and consuming, I am seriously considering a change to Apple for my next computer. Everyone I know who has one has had theirs for years before needing a new one - way longer than any desktop or laptop I have had. If only they weren't so pricey.

New Windows are all kind of stupid, I agree.

Windows isn't the cheaper option, sure you can get £200 laptops but as soon as windows 11, or whatever, comes out pfft. It's a £200 doorstop. So you need to get a decent spec pc @£750. the pc's answer to tech problems is Tim the tool man Taylor's, more power. You need a little more finesse than just twatting the math with a big numbers hammer if the math is a helix

go on give it a listen, it's good.

Based on my own anecdotal evidence, I don't get the longevity argument. Previous $500 PC laptop lasted 5 years without a (serious) problem, current $600 PC desktop going on 6, which I still play video games on (in a fairly low resolution, and the speakers turned way up to drown out the wheezing, but still), current $600 laptop going on 5. Wife has gone through probably 5 laptops in the same 10 year period, but she most of those died due to coffee being poured directly into them or just dropping them all over.. But then, her Macbook Pro (or whatever) from 2002 probably made it to  2008 or 2009 before dying, but she paid $4000 for it...

So maybe just take care of it, whatever it is
