The nirvana sound

Hi guys, I just got my 1st electric guitar a few days ago with Marshall Jackhammer and also Boss super chorus pedals. I am trying to get the Nirvana sound (more specifically the sound for smells like teen spirit). I want to play that song very badly but I can't seem to get the settings correct. Any sugguestions?

Get a distortion pedal fool. Get a boss metal zone pedal, its the best distortion ever and you can play every nirvana song with it.

oh, (tail between legs) use it then! turn the gain or distortion to the max and cut the mids.

For the sound on Unplugged in NY, the cooles pedal is a Small Face Chorus pedal. Also a distortion pedal should be used. My favorite pedal is Korg AX1g. It has everything you need in a multieffects pedal for less than $200!

i use a DOD grunge pedal, and i put the highs and lows in the middle (maybe the high a little more), and crank up the distortion all the way. if u want a nevermind sound, use a lot of chorus. for an in utero/bleach sound, no chorus, just full distortion.

I would have thought it would be pretty easy to get the Smells Like... sound with the jackhammer pedal. You just turn the distortion right up.

i can kinda get it with my lotus i just turn the knobs on the amp all different ways.

Another way is to get a Fender Frontman 15R amp . It has a chorus like thing and distortion.

Get a line 6 pod, or flextone, don't waste your money on a spider, so get the pod or flextone, and you have it all, 32 amp models, 16 digital effects, hold on dropped my owners manual...........

on me guitar i use the gain on me amp for nirvana. i cant use me pedal yet cuz i need a cable

boss mt 2 metal zone distortion pedal, i just got my first on the other day and smells

To the guy who said to just use an acoustic to get the nirvana unplugged sound, he actually used a guitar with pickups and an amp at times in that show, so that's not entirely true.

you might want to try investing $30-$40 on another distortion pedal -- a boss ds-1. considering that's what kurt used on nevermind, that's probably you're safest bet for heavy grunge disortion. it's also quite a bit cheaper than those metalzone pedals. plus, two distortion pedals gives you flexibility 'cause you can use one as an overdrive pedal or booster, and the other as a saturation effect.

anyway, to play smells like teen spirit right, use very saturated, high-gain distortion (turn the gain/volume knobs on your jackhammer up all the way) during the chorus, and use a clean sound with chorus during the verse. use distortion and chorus for the solo.

I actually tried a yamaha onepiece guitar that could give that nevermind sound...

Anyway, if you want a really powerfull distortion, you should get a Boss X-T2 (Xtortion). I have one... but I dont think that they make them anymore. Too powerful mate!

Any Grunge pedal is a waste of money. I never got a good Nirvana sound from one. Ive got the best sound from a metal zone. Ds1 and ds2's and a good guitar and amp can give you a perfect nirvana sound (considering that's what kurt used) Theres so many options and combinations out there today for a band with so many different sounds!
