for a start your wasting your time with sound recorder. go and buy some software then, give a hungry software engineer a meal.

its probably because its too loud that its getting distorted. turn the recording volume down, and leave amp volume the same.

I agree 100%.
With both bits... buy some software, then follow the advice in bold.

To improve the sound quality you might want to check how you're connected...

Does your amp have a "line out" socket? If so, is that connected to your soundcard's "line in"? That'll do the job much better than either running from a headphone socket or to a mic socket.

really all i wanted was to be able to play some rhythms and practise lead over it so i'm not going to fork out tons of cash for some software i'll hardly use. how do i set the recording volume any way? is it in sound recorder i do it
I was going from my amps emulated line out and to where the mic goes in.
Does the fact my computer is over 5 years old matter much too- it hasn't much space left either.
Will using the amp sim in my Zoom 505 be any good for recording to a computer?

You can probably get some demo versions of software that'll do you alright if you buy a music mag (check what they've got on the CD).

Look for the line in socket, not the mic socket... that may improve matters.
Also, try going direct through the Zoom... try everything, see if it helps. If it doesn't, don't do it again! laugh.gif

yeah that matters a lot. wav files are BIG so theres gonna be space issues. low diskspace. and imo a quality soundcard makes a huge difference
