Seems like it's all good, except for this "wrong certificate name" thing that pops up and must "accept"  whenever I come here.

What browser are you using and is this a new problem since the update? It may be because of "mixed content" on httpS pages. If so, I can fix that. What exactly is the browser, url, and message?

>>

I'm having trouble singing in anonymously.

also,

Also, tab + enter no longer hits the post button. It takes you to the search thing. When you click back, your thoughtful and hilarious and wonderful post is gone and you have to re-have all those great thoughts and type it out all over again. THANKS FORUM UPDATE.

I'll test it out but it's worked for me so far. Does the log in fail, is the checkbox disabled, or does the request to be anon just get ignored once you're logged in?

Hehe just like Yahoo.

I've noticed when quoting a post, the BCC code tags are not appearing. Is this just for me?

Test

Can you give me an example of BB code that does not work? I assume by BCC you mean BB but correct me if I'm wrong

Yep, I meant BB code

Anyway, it seems to be working now. It's different than before. Rather than the tag system showing up, it's looks like it does after the post is submitted.

Any way of removing the profanity filter yet?

No fix for the profanity filter yet, it much be a bug because the settings show regulars as exempt

Yes, BB Code handling was all rewritten in this version so there may be some different behavior and appearance of some BB Code related things.

I'll remember to re-add the modification that shows "Original Name" with people's info - unless that's become a standard feature in the new version. I think the post editor is improved so that'll be nice.

You had 5 warning points I think that was why. Try to stay at 0

Blues also had 5, I've reset you both to 0.

Ok, Major and Blues are un-banned now. Don't do that anymore.

#3412479 GZ Regulars, Members (and Mods+) can now attach file to posts

Posted by rbalch on 22 February 2012 - 11:17 AM

Dear GZUers,

I have a gift for (most of) you. You may now make limited uploads to GZ.

Each user has a quota that is clearly shown at the bottom of each post editor window.

Mods+ can attach files to posts in All Forums
GZ Regulars can attach files to posts in Discussion and Website Help and Feedback
Plain Members can attach files only in Website Help and Feedback (most useful for, say, attaching a screenshot of an error message)

This is in the interest of allowing members to more easily share files (legally).
....especially users sharing their own creations when they don't happen to be on youtube or another dedicated file sharing/streaming website.
Since the whole MegaUpload scandal blew up, you guys may not have access to the as many legitimate ways to share files. Unfortunately each user here is allotted only 50MB or less (for now)

Do not violate any copyrights or your posts will be removed and you will be suspended or banned (even if you are an old-timer) :excl:

As a demo I have attached my avatar in jpeg format to this post. :yes2:

Enjoy!

Cheers, :guitar:
Rob

UPDATE: Here are the current quotas, i just increased them...
Mods: 100MB Global, 10MB Per
GZ Regs: 50MB Global, 5MB Per
Members: 25MB Global, 2.5MB Per

#3410245 ACTA and TPP, New Threats to Internet

Posted by rbalch on 06 February 2012 - 06:12 AM

Hello all GZUers

I liked how Dorio and others worked to get the word out about SOPA and PIPAbut we now have some more (similar/worse?) international copyright/trademark related 'agreements' being made and negotiated behind closed doors. "ACTA" and "TPP"

Please read:

Beyond ACTA: next secret copyright agreement negotiated this week—in Hollywood

The full text of ACTA will not even be release after a FOIA request. The request was denied for reasons of 'national security' by the Obama Administration :protest:

Of course the content-cartels would not stop after the fizzle of SOPA and PIPA. We need to stay aware of these things because they have the potential to change the Internet as we know it. :explode:

Dorio, let me hear your say on what you know about these two items, it seems you follow these things closely...

Anyone else, chime in here or, better yet, spread the word. I don't care in which country you live, these agreements can and will affect you

#3410241 error messages for the past few days

Posted by rbalch on 06 February 2012 - 05:42 AM

Hello GZUers :drink:

I've been working on this more than I"d like to admit and I think all of our problems are solved now.

So.......
  • You may re-enable javascript,
  • You may use the 'Desktop' theme/skin,
  • You will not be bothered by the training slash problem described by Cuphands above. Thanks Cuphands for the the post! That was ruining lots of stuff!
  • You will always be directed to a legit https:// SSL encrypted version of the website whenever you sign in, this will protect your password in case you are using a cafe or unencrypted wi-fi, or just any untrusted network
  • And, while briefly in SSL mode during sign in, you will not see ANY annoying security warnings because: 1) the certificate is now 'trusted', I decided to shell out the $$$ for you guys, and 2) there are no more 'mixed-mode' conditions (which IE especially hates), I think I've eliminated those. :blow:
Please let me know if you still expecience problems of any kind. I will now entertain small bugs as well (assuming some large problems don't come up soon)

Thanks for your patience, I hope some of you got a bit of exercise or sunshine during this GZU downtime. :pain:

Cheers, :guitar:
Rob

#3409856 error messages for the past few days

Posted by rbalch on 01 February 2012 - 12:06 PM

Ok, this should be improved now but not perfected yet. soon it will all be https. No reason other than it's the trend of the internet. You will be free to post your anti-government, anti-corporation, anti-censorship posts here without your ISP/gov't being able to intercept it in between. Also, your password will be encrypted when you sign in so people/ISPs/Gov'ts can't steal your password either...

#3408053 Sopa and Pipa bills postponed ‎

Posted by rbalch on 17 January 2012 - 10:00 PM

What should GZU do to bring awareness to SOPA & PIPA? GZU is definitely a website that could 'disappear' if that legislation pass. The US Congress is disappointing the world.

Please consider donating to GuitarZone.com.
With more and more people using ad blocking add-ons for browsers, ad revenue has plummeted.
If you can spare even US$5 it would mean a lot to help pay for GZ's monthly server bill.
Thank you to all. Cheers! --Rob
