Hello Will, glad to see you stop by and update us on how your are doing. So glad life is good for you. :)

That's a gracious response to a guy that doesn't deserve it, so thank you very much.

Six, the degree is in Creative writing. I'm working with Craig Lesley, Jack Driscoll, Chris Abani... Pretty amazing faculty.

You'd like Abani, probably. You should check him out.

Life is good, guys, thanks for asking. Got married, got healthy, currently finishing up a masters degree.

This is a sort of weird monument to our youthful insecurities. I don't know if I'm glad or sad that it still exists.

Christian! How are you?

Hey all, just wanted to check in, brush up against a ghost.

I'm sorry to hear about Woggie.  That's too bad.

Hope all is well with everyone.

Crazy to think I joined this site when I was 15 years old, 12 years ago.  The world was pretty different 12 years ago.

Honestly, though, you've probably already fucked it up and presented yourself as the friend if you guys haven't had sex yet.

When a man says he doesn't want a relationship with a woman, he's actually saying "maybe."  When a woman says no in this context, it is no forever.

What a complete load of shit.  The Power of Now?  Are you a middle aged woman?  What's next, The Secret?

Come on people.  I expect more from you.  You're all bitter twenty-something dudes.  Read better books.

1Then I looked again at all the acts of (A)oppression which were being done under the sun And behold I saw the tears of the oppressed and that they had (B)no one to comfort them; and on the side of their oppressors was power, but they had no one to comfort them.

2So ©I congratulated the dead who are already dead more than the living who are still living.

3But (D)better off than both of them is the one who has never existed, who has never seen the evil activity that is done under the sun.

4I have seen that every labor and every (E)skill which is done is the result of rivalry between a man and his neighbor This too is (F)vanity and striving after wind.

Whenever I think about hell, I think about the book of Ecclesiastes. All people suffer. All people end up in the same place. The only people who have anything going for them are those who haven't been born. I love that damn book.

1I said to myself, "Come now, I will test you with (A)pleasure. So enjoy yourself." And behold, it too was futility.

2(B)I said of laughter, "It is madness," and of pleasure, "What does it accomplish?"

3I explored with my mind how to ©stimulate my body with wine while my mind was guiding me wisely, and how to take hold of (D)folly, until I could see (E)what good there is for the sons of men to do under heaven the few years of their lives.

4I enlarged my works: I (F)built houses for myself, I planted (G)vineyards for myself;

5I made (H)gardens and (I)parks for myself and I planted in them all kinds of fruit trees;

6I made (J)ponds of water for myself from which to irrigate a forest of growing trees.

7I bought male and female slaves and I had (K)homeborn slaves Also I possessed flocks and (L)herds larger than all who preceded me in Jerusalem.

8Also, I collected for myself silver and (M)gold and the treasure of kings and provinces I provided for myself (N)male and female singers and the pleasures of men--many concubines.

9Then I became (O)great and increased more than all who preceded me in Jerusalem. My wisdom also stood by me.

10(P)All that my eyes desired I did not refuse them I did not withhold my heart from any pleasure, for my heart was pleased because of all my labor and this was my (Q)reward for all my labor.

11Thus I considered all my activities which my hands had done and the labor which I had exerted, and behold all was [a]®vanity and striving after wind and there was (S)no profit under the sun.

#3341092 I'm thinking about becoming a Republican...

Posted by Will_Wood on 12 February 2011 - 12:22 PM

The problem with people's perceptions of welfare is that people believe that it is supposed to be for the "greater good", but that's not what it's designed to be. Welfare is designed to deliver small kindnesses to people, which are the only kindnesses worth anything. There is no actual "greater good" worth fighting for. Sure, some people abuse small kindnesses, but small kindnesses are still absolutely necessary in a society where those small kindnesses are disappearing. I really greatly fear a society which is only interested in pursuing the "greater good". The end never justifies the means, and I say that if welfare is able to help one honest person down on their luck, then keep the program in place. It's better to help that one person than buy one more bomb. Would you rather be a society that helps that one person even if everyone else takes advantage of the system, or would you be a society who removes the program that helps that one person because everyone else takes advantage of the system? In either case, people still take advantage of the system. The only difference is that one person.

Here's the deal:

Just because the system isn't perfect or up to your standards (IE helping specifically you in your problems which you apply to a wide range of people) does not mean that the idea of a system which helps our disenfranchised is bad at all. It just isn't working for you right now. So what? There are a ton of people that it HAS helped. Anyone who bitches about welfare is a fucking child and needs to grow up. This reminds me of the story of Job. Job's friends assume that all of the terrible things that have happened to him have happened because he simply MUST be a sinner. It's this logic that in order for you to need help there must be something wrong with you. What's God's answer in Job? No, bad things happen to good people. Job is a good person. You can't understand why it is that wicked people prosper. It doesn't matter if you are a Christian or an Athiest, that story applies to your judgments on other people. So fuck off with this anti-welfare, anti-unemployment bullshit simply because it isn't working for you right now. Don't take it out on the people who are able to use it to better their lives.

I'm all for helping people and I do believe that bad things happen to good people. Hell, I'd give somebody the shirt off of my back if they asked for it. But I think it would be wise to step back and consider what sort of help these people need. If we are encouraging negative behavior, then it is the wrong kind of help.

The idea that people who are on welfare even have "negative behavior" is a totally false idea. That's our cultural programming at work. All kinds of people use welfare, and if you are down on your luck, it's not because you're a "bad person". It's just that you're down on your luck.

That whore has less talent then my dick. Someone tell her to get some implants so the guys have something to stare at too, ya would think she is 13 she is so flat chested.

sad part is, smashy, she still wouldn't look twice at you.

I wouldn't return the favour either. Flat chested black chicks aren't exactly the kind of girls I dig, especially ones that allow a wiener like Chris Brown to slap them around.

Are you fucking kidding me with this racist bullshit?

Please get rid of Smashy.
