Cuts in the UK
07 February 2011 - 03:13 AM
So, the massive, international Engineering Consultancy that I work for has just decided to let us know they are thinking of putting our hours up to 40/ week (from 37.5) for no extra money. This is one the back of redundancies, pay freezes (i have had 1 pay rise in 2.5 years and got made redundant a month later because I was promoted) and a recruitment freeze.
What does everyone think of this? Am I being whiny and annoying because I'm getting a (in effect) 6.66% pay cut and still no job security? Or is it fairly reasonable that I wouldn't expect them to hit the employees again after so many other "cost saving" measures?

Teaching

Guys,
I'm thinking of making a career change and going into the Teaching profession. Now my background would be Maths or Science, and I'm more in favour of Maths.
Does anyone have any advise or suggestions as to how I would get into this after working for a major Engineering company for 2.5 years. Also any advise on whether you think it's a good idea, or best avoided etc etc.
Please note this is teaching in England. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
