The Eagles: Hotel CaliforniaMembers:CODE Joe Walsh - vocals, guitar, keyboards
Don Felder - vocals, guitar, slide guitar Glenn Frey - vocals, guitar, keyboards Randy Meisner - vocals, bass, guitarone Don Henley - vocals, drums, percussion Notable tracks: All, except # 5 - Wasted Time (Reprise) Strangely enough, Eagles (notice: not the Eagles) published 4 albums and a Greatest Hits before releasing their #1 album - Hotel California in 1976. After the Hotel California Album, they released The Long Run in 1979, and after that, they have almost only published Greatest Hits albums. Hotel California starts with - of course - Hotel California. This 6½ minute wonder has firmly established itself as one of the most loved songs in the 20th Century. Especially the last 2 minutes are a must for guitar enthusiasts. Moving to number 2 on the album - New Kid In Town, which is a simple song in its most beautiful way. Glenn Freys voice and Randy Meisners guitarone are great parts of this track. Life in The Fast Lane doesn't please me that much - it's an ok folk/rock song, but lacks interesting elements. Number 4 - Wasted Time - lovely ballad, good vocal performance by Don Henley, but were it any slower, it would stop. Number 5 - Wated Time (Reprise) - is actually a sequel to number 4. Purely intrumental. Victim of Love is the 6th track - and a perfect folk/rock ballad. I particularly love the interaction between the slide guitar and the lead guitar. Joe Walsh makes his first apperance on the album with song number seven - Pretty Maids All In A Row. Unfortunately, I don't know who's playing the guitar solo after ca. 1:52, but it sure sounds good. Before Le Grand Finale, we have Randy Meisners only song - Try And Love Again, which perhaps is best remembered by the stunning intro. Apart from a bit too long fade-out, this song is also a second listening worthy. "She came from Provicende - the one in Rhode Island". Thus begins the final song on this masterpiece of an album. And what a great finale! From the piano intro to the pedal steel guitar, with a catching song and great lyrics, this song is along with Hotel California my two favorites.
Should I name a "Sgt. Pepper-album" of the 1970's, Hotel California would be it. Not in the experimental category, but for the continuity.
Greetings from Denmark!
