ohh, this is a tricky one, there are just so many to choose from. i dont think i can say i have one favourite that i think is better than any other bassline, but i do have favourites by different bassists. here are a few......

My favourite bassline changes daily. No, scratch that, it changes hourly. Right now my favourite bassline is "Somebody's Trying To Tell Me Something" by Midnight Oil.


But check back in an hour... it will be something else.

Same here. My favourite at the moment is Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine by The Killers but the one I play most often is probably Throw Away Your Television (Live version) By Chili Peppers. Its really funky and fun to play and improvise on. Its off the Live In Hyde Park album if any of you guys are interested. smile.gif

my favorite bassline at the moment would probably be either Lounge Act by Nirvana (kinda hard to play it the correct way) or Jesus Christ Pose by Soundgarden (even though i can't play it cuz my fingers aren't fast enough haha). it changes quite often for me too...

At the moment it's I miss my lung by Frenzal Rhomb, but it'll probably change in a few minutes.

I always go back to Money from the live album Delicate Sound of Thunder of Pink Floyd but at the moment my favorite is I wish by Stevie Wonder.

my favorite of classic rock right now is definitely "the girl i love got long black wavy hair' by zeppelin.

Funk is The Chicken, which is the hardest thing I have ever had to play so far.

Jazz is the bass line to Autumn Leaves (I play upright on that)

I too change my mind on this. At the moment it is "Texarkana" by R.E.M., but yesterday it was "The Real Me" by the Who.

Real Me is amazing. For some reason I consider that more a bass solo than a bass line...I guess I am weird like that. But it is amazing.

That is basically what it is: a fantastic bass line that is basically a song-long solo. I love the way that song changes the traditional (rock-wise) roles of the instruments. The Who did that occasionally, didn't they? tongue.gif

Yeah Lex is way better than Tom. One thing I was wandering is on Who'd Want to be a Cop? on Sans Souci, the intro is

which is a bastard to play at that speed...not impossible, but it would be a lot easier with a different tuning. Do they play with each string dropped a semitone down (which would move everything up a fret on the neck) or something?

Anyway, my current favourites are Take the Power Back by Rage Against the Machine, and somethign else which I was just abotu to type but I have forgotten the name of unsure.gif

haha those are the only two Green Day songs i know how to play... (well, a lot of their songs have a really easy bassline, like Whatsername, so i know how to play those too.. those are easy to figure out).

i hate playing that song but it's fun at the same time... hah i'm normal i swear...


i thought about it some more, and i realized i really really like My Friend Of Misery by Metallica. i'm not a big fan of their later music, but their earlier work, like that off of the Black Album, is pretty good. My Friend Of Misery is easy but fun to play...
