jason newsted was in metallica but he randomly left because everyone was going through rehab and apparently that wasn't ok for him. what a loser. and yes audioslave's bassist is tim commerford. audioslave IS rage against the machine, just a different singer (soundgarden's singer, chris cornell). apparently zack de la rocha (singer of rage against the machine) is now doing some solo project. i'll have to check it out.

I've heard that Jason Newsted was literally pushed away from the band because of James bad treatment towards him... Ho and i heard it from James Heitfeild himself!!! blink.gif Anyway, Jason has joined Voivod and last i heard he was still with them.

Pastorius - The Chicken

i so love that song with Black Market and Birdland.

i dont know why people dislike Jason Newsted. i personally liked him but its just the metallica environment wasnt good enough to produce any good music.

Metallica's most successful album was during the Newsted era after all.

metallica's most successful album is master of puppets, no? cliff burton wrote the whole master of puppets song before he died, and metallica just decided to do it pretty much as a tribute to him. he also wrote orion and damage inc. off of master of puppets, but sadly died before the album was put out. now, if you were to go through every metallica album with jason newsted on it and look at the composers of each song, you might find newsted on 2 or three of the songs. it's sad that he wrote VERY little of the music metallica came out with. if you looked on metallica's first three albums, cliff burton wrote pretty much every song. on ride the lightening, cliff wrote all but 2 songs.

yes i know i'm harsh on newsted, but i feel that i would like metallica's music even more if they had picked up a different bassist and absolutely more if cliff hadn't died.

My favorite Metallica album is Master of Puppets but the most sucessful album is definetly the black album. And i got to agree with Mahrous: Metallica environment was not the best for Jason. It was even admit by James himslef that he kept Jason down and never made nothing to make him feel part of the band. I respect the guy because one day he said "well i had enough of this crap" and just left a very high paying jobs for a humble one and the only thing i can say of that is: good for him. He didn't want to loose is integrety for money and you just got to respect that. Not the best bassist out there but certainly a good bloke. Would love to met him and have the chance to shake his hand.
