Revolution Is Such A Drag

Combat trousers and a red badge,
A slogan above your head.
Self-righteous crusaders,
But revolution is such a drag.

Well read and utterly conscientious,
Standing up for the working classes,
It's nice to see Middle England's conscience,
Except revolution is such a drag.

Chorus:
No-one really believes it,
You'll all reach thirty and look back,
Insincere ignorant fools,
Realising revolution is such a drag.

There's no such thing as a rich socialist,
Lucky that your student loans have run out.
Bring the system down and form a commune,
It's just that revolution is such a drag.

Chorus

When you have families and a job,
You'll forget these principles of yours.
You'll be on of us, in this coporate machine,
And you'll say 'Revolution is such a drag.'

Herr Rararr has to confess that he was mildly stoned when he wrote this, and is looking for an objective opinion on it. Anyhow, as always, all feedback appreciated smile.gif

ohmy.gif Druggy! [/hypocrite]

This made me think of the Young Ones. Sloganeering wannabe intellectual students that you know will one day grow up and become beige people.

The first two verses are good. They set up the characature of the disillusioned youth set to change the world, and the last verse is good as it describes the 2.4 children style suburban couple. The third stanza though, whilst being interesting, lacked the kind of personal humour, it didn't have as much direction, and that would be the section I'd look at the most closely.

Amusing. I like it.

Thanks for reading, and pleased that it came across right. Problem with the third verse was that the Herr was being, perhaps, a little preachy and pretentious. It will undergo work now....

I like that it's a seldom told tale, yet it's true of so many.

Hence the saying, "if you're not a bit of a communist when you're young, you've got no heart, if you've not shed it by the time you're thirty, you've got no brains.", I suppose - it didn't have that special something that makes a song a really good song, but it beyond that it's good.

I look forward to the rewrite.

I think it's a really cool concept. It could definitely be awesome with a rewrite, but it's cool. Really good job. smile.gif

But I must ask....why does Herr Rararr always speak of himself in the third person?

he'll never answer that quesion...and btw, I think this song is done well. i think it's better than other people say it is, but...

I will be forced to stop reading your songs if you do not stop speaking of yourself in the third person. Literally...I'll just stop.

I want your word that you'll stop.

Thank you Herr Rararr, I am now fully satisfied and ready to accept the fact that you speak of yourself in third person.

I fail to see how the Herr's personal style is annoying. It's a quirk, nothing more. Try paying attention to the song instead of whether or not it's "the Herr" or "I".

For the third verse:

You'll wear an army surplus beret,
And hold a placard high proudly in the march.
Only you empathise with that great man, Ché,
But you know, Revolution is such a drag.

Herr Rararr is unsure. It might become a bridge. Hmm.

Hi, for those who don't know, I'm Herr Rararr, but he's been banned, so I'm posting under this name instead, blah blah.

Anyhow, got the music recorded for this one, and decided to take a reggae-ska-ish direction (blame a friend). Anyhow, I'm really pleased with teh bass-line, of all things, but disappointingly due to Audacity hating me and my 4-track having only 4-tracks (it's all in the name), I haven't got vocals on there yet. It should be quite obvious where the words go, the chorus certainly is. Anyhow, the volumes are a little messed up (audacity), but I hope you like it. Any feedback on the sound appreciated.

You need to learn to bounce tracks on your four track. You can put two or even three tracks onto one track. The audio quality is sometimes not as good, but if pressed for space what can you do?

The hiss drives me insane though - it get hissy on the four-track, and then when transferred to computer it adds even more hiss. Which is annoying. When I evenutally whip Audacity into shape, or get an 8-track then it'll all be ok. But what did you think of the music?
