If we knew that do you think we'd be wasting time on the internet?

Just get the adresses of some record companies and send them, just don't be surprised if you don't hear much. Get out there in the bars and clubs, build a reputation and make them come to you.

phone record labels first otherwise its a waste of time. you have to get your music out there play in clubs bars then move up to well known venues create some sort of buzz this will help. Dont go all guns blazing for massive labels like sony, emi atlantic etc etc. Put your efforts into atracticting independant labels they will be far more eager to hear you play.

Good Luck

Well, the odds are against everyone for being a musical genius.

On top of that, nobody hires anybody under 18 unless you want to be put in a prepubescent-singing-group.

Getting into a record label is much like getting into a prestigious college: You have to have a good record, impressive dedication/reputation or something that makes you seem like you have potential, talent, and lots of luck.

They get hundreds, if not thousands, of amateur groups that they are used to turning down.

Yes, be discouraged. That way you will work hard.

The guitar skills are irrelavent nowadays. Record labels want to hear a band that can appeal to a large audience and make tons of money. They want a package.

Chet Atkins wrote a book. Try that. It's what Doyle Dykes recommended to me. I don't remember what Clint Black said but I believe it was similiar.
