Personally I find a lot of people get kind of side-tracked with the notion of "people-over-playing" and jaded by the fact that some artists have technique. The first time I heard of any of this music (referring to percussive fingerstyle guitar driven pieces) was just with my ears, long before the advent of YouTube. I never thought "how, why, how many" but simply enjoyed what I heard. When I hear Al Di Meola or Steve Morse, that for me may at times feel a bit wankery for the lack of a better word although I respect some of their work. This however is something entirely different.

In my humble opinion, Guy Buttery is something much, much more than all of this. Sure the dude has chops but he has also loads of soul executed with a deep intensity and passion. Listen to this dammit - http://www.youtube.c...h?v=FRp_Pgo4050

I also think his new album is damn fine - http://guybuttery.bandcamp.com/

I don't care much for Morse or DiMeola myself. But I do like complex fingerstyle when the complexity has a purpose. I don't like a zillion notes just for the sake of being able to play a zillion notes as fast as you can. Guy Buttery is good, but not the kind of stuff I'm really into playing. I generally like older pre-war fingerstyle blues and ragtime.

To each his own!

Un-plugged is not the same as never-was-plugged-in-to-begin-with.
