The fact of the matter is that ONE chord isn't going to do much more than get you through a line or two....but if I had to chose I'd chose C or G....or D...or maybe E....A is nice to though, but so is EM...and AM.....C7 has a nice ring to it...so does D7....I'm rather fond of F as well though...and Fm.

Boring choices. You need to learn more interesting chords.

I like G.. but with the finger beside pinky on 3rd fret of the B string... gives it a nicer ring

e|-----|-----|--X--|-----|-----|-----|
B|-----|-----|--X--|-----|-----|-----|
G|-----|-----|-----|-----|-----|-----|
D|-----|-----|-----|-----|-----|-----|
A|-----|--X--|-----|-----|-----|-----|
E|-----|-----|--X--|-----|-----|-----|

when i am writting a song, or just playing around with chords, i usually start with this chord

You've change a 3rd into a 5th when you do that. Leaves you with only 1 3rd to make it major and two 5ths which always have a big open sound. I find for whatever reason when I learn tabs of British bands they tend to this spelling whereas American bands tend to the other G with 2 3rds and 1 5th.

Exactly, but i like the sound better than a regular G, and it is easier to go straight to a D a lot faster this way.

I'm not sure what the hell it is. Kinda jazzy/bluesy sounding.

A7add6 maybe?

I'm thinking it's just an A7, it has the 1 3 5 b7 there.

5 - another 1
7 - another 5
6 - there's the 3
5 - there's the b7
7 - there's the 5
5 - there's the 1

I'm no expert at theory, but do those two 5 make it any different?

Billy 16: actually that 7th fret note on the B string would be an F#. so that wouldnt be another 5th, which would be an E. so i think Ninjato is correct.

I don't know what the ###### I was thinking there. I think I was thinking seventh fret to the E, but I had that a bit backwards.
