I agree. I love my Fender and nothing will ever replace it. I knew from the first time that I picked it up that it was the perfect guitar for me.

Fenders havn't always had the quality right, but if youv'e got a good one, nothing will touch it. Many years ago"guitar for the practicing musician" did a pole for the greatest guitar ever. It went
1 Stratocaster
2 Les paul
3 Telecaster

Such ranks, like pop charts are for people without imagination tongue.gif

The feel, the tone you want, that's where it's at. There are so many good brands.

It means you shouldn't let polls influence you at all. You go by what YOU like and what YOU feel better with.

A pop chart is a reflection of record sales.
Not a suggestion of what to buy
Very little to do with imagination.

Well, some people take it more than just record sales is what I (and matt_theripper too, methinks) mean.

But surely this topic can only be a discussion of opinions.
you wil never get everybody to agree on a particular guitar being the best. Therefore how can it be irrellevant to reffer to a poll of opinions.

Les Pauls are over rated in my opinion, especially Gibson ones. I would rather play a Tokai copy or a PRS LP style guitar. They are also far too heavy, unless you get a chambered one, and the necks are too wide and bulky for some guitarists, myself especially. I have found that Gibson's quality has really gone down the pipe and their guitars arent worth the money, unless its a Custom Shop axe of course.

ok, this is kinda pissing me off, the whole "Gibson is so good!" thing. in my opinion there are plenty of guitars out there better than Les Pauls (e.g. Ibanez RG1570). I know that Les Pauls have "that" sound, but you could get that by just putting new pickups in a guitar half the price, one with a faster neck maybe? but what really bothers me about Gibsons is if you get any other guitar (Jackson, Fender, Ibanez) people don't think you're as good than someone with a Les Paul. who's with me?

yah man!!!!! you're speaking the word... the WORD!!! like some other dude out there said "its not the guitar you play but how you play the guitar"....that's what matters! those dame over priced chunks of wood at gibson. its all advertiving man soooo get real and save beer.gif a bunch of bucks and buy epi

Don't get me wrong. I have an epi LP std and it sounds great, but when you compare it to a gibson there is a huge difference. There are actually Japanese les paul copies that sound better than epiphones IMO.

I've been thwarted from replying like three times now but the jist of what I wanted to say is Fender's are OK but not really that great. Gibsons are a better made guitar. Opinionate all you want but that's a fact. Old fenders (yes, even pre CBS) where wildly inconsistent and most didn't play very well. They're doing better now. Gibson's quality today is pretty much as good as it ever was except for it's high production models like the specials and jr's. What you actualy like to play is personal preference, but never think for an instant that fender makes a better axe.

From what I've heard it's very debatable that Gibsons quality is as good as it always has been. Can't coment myself(oh I just did) cause I'm lucky and have a very old one.
