what is a beaver tail?

It is a concession stand food that you can get in Canada. Fried flatbread w/ ham and swiss cheese. It's flat like a "beaver tail".

I havent seen one of those stands in ages....They are good.

What's this Ham and Swiss Cheese nonsense? Cinammon. Cinammon!

Other frequent toppings include Strawberry Jam, Lemon Sauce, or Maple Syrup.

I will look for these. Also, Gravitas: the graffiti in Ottawa, yo, wtf? That's insane. Also, excellent buildings.

Beavertails kick ass. I had them up at Tremblant, freaking incredible. One I had was apples and cinnamon and another was peanut butter and chocolate.

Yep, Ottawa's got some tats. It's a good city. Incidentally, they've actually proposed a bill to get some of the major building tops in Ottawa transformed into parks, which would then be connected by bridges above traffic. Just to stick it to Toronto.

That does sound sweet, but keep in mind that unlike Ottawa, our buildings are a million feet tall. I wouldn't go across a bridge like that here for money! But Ottawa was cool, I was just really surprised at the level of vandalism compared to here, which I figured must be worse.

One man's vandalism is another man's playground. Especially the one down my street

Toronto is way hipper then Ottawa when it comes to jazz, although neither is very hip to jazz anyway tongue.gif

But hey, Tdot has Phil Nimmons so eat that Ottawa! tongue.gif

Btw, I played a concert with him once, he is a nice guy and an awesome clarinetist.

Article (not written by me):

A Bit of Canadiana. Beaver Tails
January 20, 2008 | 0 Comments

I have eaten many a Beaver Tail but have never tried to make them at home. Until now. And I'm wondering what took me so long! For the uninitiated, Beaver Tails are sort of like an oblong-shaped, flat donut. Basically fried dough. Beyond that, they can be topped with sugar, icing, chocolate, jam, pie filling, cinnamon or just about any other topping (I've seen banana split beaver tails!). I'm detailing two recipes here - one fried (the more "authentic" version) and one bread machine, baked version (for those who would rather not fry).

Aside: When I was looking around on the internet to see if the recipe that was forwarded to me was representative of the other beaver tail recipes out there, I came upon a recipe that was clearly for actual beaver tails. Um ... gross. Just to be clear, I'm taking about a sinful, yeast-based, donut-like, decadent treat here. No animals will be harmed in the making of this sweet delight smile.gif

They make things like that at our county fair and call them elephant ears (shape is different, guess how). See: funnel cakes.
