Your dismissal of them as "just another punk band" is completely invalid, not because of personal tastes, but because probably the majority of their discography wasn't even punk. You can't put all the songs on "London Calling" into one musical category, as you're doing.

And nothing gives me that right. However, you're going to look foolish if you go around being hypocritical and calling other people's musical knowledge limited.

Actually you couldn't be more wrong. My dismissal of them as "just another punk band" is completely because of personal tastes.

I think the point Alex is trying to make is that calling The Clash simply a punk band is actually, objectively, wrong regardless of personal taste, and the same goes for calling London Calling a punk album.

That's exactly the point I'm making, and is in fact exactly what I said.

Oh come on. To the the average person, The Clash are a punk band. Especially the average person who doesn't like punk.

But you claim to have listened to "London Calling", so you're not the "average person". You're supposedly well-informed on the issue.

I listened to it once, probably. It was once too many. I didn't like it. Big deal. Get over it.

The bottom line is The Clash are a punk band. Just google it. Their official site even calls them punk. As does wiki, which you tend to swear by.

They started out as one, but diversified massively, and to call them just "any punk band" is an insult to their place in music history.

It's a terrible, bloated mess of an album.

Give me 3 reasons why. Honestly, it's not so bad.

There are only 3 songs less than 5 minutes long, and none less than 4 minutes long.

The songs are generally pretty average.

It's over-produced.

There's three reasons for you.

Agreed. Though there are good songs on it - Johnny Depp plays on one of the songs for goodness sake! - it was a total waste that album because of the flabby production. F*ckin cocaine.

All Around The World - Longest ever number one at 9mins20 I think...

For fuck's sake. Why is it so hard to grasp? I never liked them. Why should I "have" to like them because you lot do?

Yes, I admit they were very important in music history, but that's entirely different matter. You said so yourself, Bruce.

So basically, it all boils down to you slating me because I'm not a Clash fan. That kinda says it all really.

Nobody has said you have to like them. People are just not to happy about your ignorant dismissal of them. And don't give me any of that in my opinion bollocks.

I mean if I said "In my opinion water is solid" I would be wrong. Dismissing the clash as just another sex pistols is just as wild a statement.

This has nothing to do with whether or not you like them. It has everything to do with you talking out your ass. As usual.

Total bollocks.

For a start, I didn't just "dismiss" them. In fact I acknowledged their importance (on 2 seperate occasions). I said I don't like them. I thought you of all people could see that.

Oh, and your pathetic "water is solid" logic doesn't apply here. Some things are fact. Water is a liquid. Fact. There are 14 windows in my house. Fact. There are 5 dumb people in this thread. Opinion. The Clash were a fantastic band. Opinion.

Lost in the supermarket invented Britpop. Not really relevant, I just thought I'd point it out.
