F*cking cold!

QUOTE (seanpopowczak @ Jan 17 2009, 01:02 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
"balls cold" is Canadian for temperatures from -35 and lower.

Hence where the term "freezing my balls off" came from. It was so cold today the wind felt like it was piercing right through my skin even with thermal underwear, two sweaters, ski mask and jacket, touque and gloves on when I was outside, it was effing insane.

"The expression is derived from the original 'It's cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey.'

This expression does not literally mean what you are thinking. When they used cannons on ships there was a rack for holding the cannon balls called a 'Brass Monkey' when it got to cold the cannon balls would shrink faster than the brass cannon ball stand and fall through the holes. Hence 'freezing the balls off a brass monkey.'"

I got this from Yahoo! Answers, but my history teacher told me about it originally.

Today

Stormy for a time this evening, with damaging gusts of 120 to 150 km per hour. The severe winds will abate tonight, but will remain very gusty. It will turn very cold, with heavy or thundery showers of hail or sleet, turning to snow on high ground. Lowest temperatures zero to 4 degrees.

Tomorrow

Winds will strengthen again tomorrow, with some severe gusts. Bitterly cold with wintry showers, most frequent over the western half of the country, where some of the showers may be thundery. Highest temperatures just 3 to 6 degrees. Later in the day, more prolonged outbreaks of rain or sleet will develop, which may be preceded by snow.

3 Day Outlook

The cold wintry weather will continue over the first half of next week, with no rise in temperatures until after midweek. Rain or showers on Sunday night may turn to snow over more northern counties. Monday and Tuesday will be cold windy days with highest daytime temperatures only around 5 or 6C and frost at night. The wind direction will be westerly and this will blow a lot of showers in off the cold Atlantic. The showers will be very frequent over the west, north and southwest of the country, but the eastern side of Ireland will not be as badly affected by them. And in the low temperatures, the showers will contain a wintry mix with snow on the higher ground and at times too lower down. The showers will largely die out on Wednesday although it will still be a cold day. The second half of next week looks unsettled.

I kinda wonder if Philly is happy that Arizona has home field advantage, too, considering it'll be a high of 20F tomorrow in Philadelphia. Then, again, probably not.

Phoenix is going wild. The crowd should be pretty rowdy . . . not Philly rowdy . . . but rowdy.

yes, i was aware, but after i realized that i had forgotten the code, i wasn't really feeling up to posting a text version anyway. so much easier to click and look anyway, and the post gazette weather report gives me the warm fuzzies.

Gonna be warm in Tampa though for the Super Bowl, people should be thankful they won't have to freeze their nads off for that one. It's been snowing like mad today here though, a foot and a half expected by the morning.
