No sport can be great if the greatest players are all drugged up.

This latest scandal is really going to take the wind out of baseball fans' sails. What was said leading up to and after Bonds breaking the home run record was how A-Rod would make the performance enhancing drugs era seem a distant memory because he would own the record legitimately someday. Not any more! As a baseball fan, myself, what a freaking letdown.

He took "performance enhancing drugs" from 2001 to 2003. He also claimed in his interview with Pedro Gomez that he didn't know what he was taking. Yeah right.

Is there any testing done in European football leagues? I find it hard to believe they aren't taking steroids or HGH.

Mandatory testing has taken place for decades, very few players have been found to be taking anything performance-enhancing (of which only a couple were top internationals), and not one of these cases was in England's top division.

So believe it.

Well...I don't. The pressure on the players in those leagues is just as great, if not greater than the pressure on any athletes in North American leagues. I find it hard to accept that they wouldn't try to get every advantage they could.

Testing isn't perfect either. Until recently, there was no method for testing for HGH through urine. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyone who's ever tried to find gainful employment in the US while remaining a stoner knows exactly how easy it is to beat a piss test.

And what I find weird/gross/disturbing is that baseball is re-testing urine samples from years ago to see what substances they missed/were unable to detect at the time. Seriously. Who keeps urine samples that long?

The pressure may be greater, but the players have also grown up in a culture of testing and honesty with regards to drugs. Also, there's not much to be gained in football from gaining pure muscle mass. Footballers gain more from eating and training right than they ever would from using steroids. You don't get very muscular people in football at all.

I heard he knew they were performance enhancing drugs, he just didn't know which kind.

I used to like the Mets. But then I only lived in America until I was 8 and promptly forgot the whole thing.
