Don't worry, I just wanted to sound quotable. For the record doing what you've said is how I became a Communist. Careful.

I was once a strong believing Catholic Warhawk Republican lol

Oh how age humbles you.

I taught in Sunday School at a church and supported the candidacy of GW Bush (first time). Warn't age that did me in, but rather that awful university experience where I was thrust into a city of 5 million from a small tobacco growing community. Don't worry, I still have my confederate flag in my el camino.

hahaha it was how I was programed growing up. I too was a huge Bush supporter, until I stumbled across some essays from Thomas Woods and had a really fantastic History teacher. That was the beginning of the end for me.

Oh and I read the Bible.... Then much of the Tanakh ... then the Quran

had a weird vacation period where I loved Eastern religions

now im just a cynical asshole atheist

Are you completely sure we're not the same person (don't we also have similar background screens or was that someone else?).

My current roommate showed up and was excited to see Jesus on my wall and the bible on my shelf. I immediately corrected her naive excitement to help her note that my collection of religious/sacred works is pretty comprehensive and that, while Jesus (who I found in the dumpster) occupies a wall between golden Russian icons, there is also a buddhist shrine, a black plastic crow who I feed seeds to and pray to when I'm bored, and a trove of other religious crap.

Easiest way to become an atheist? Study the Bible.

I don't think I'm a psychoanalysing, cunty misandrist.

You're probably right. I made a generalization based off of my negative personal experiences with self-proclaimed feminists.

What I read but with different words to make a point:

I hate black people. I met one really black person who wouldn't stop talking about being black. I think his attitude comes from this black college he attended. It's like he was making me pass his black test. I'm not racist, but I sure hate black people.

....

You met an asshole who happened to be a woman. If you're going to paint every woman in a poor light as a result, I'm very sorry for you.

...What? Haha, I said nothing about me thinking every woman is toxic because I met one toxic woman.. I simply asked if there is a feminist (and I was referring to 3rd wave feminists) out there that don't have similar personality flaws..because every single self-proclaimed feminist I have met, has sucked...really bad.. Obviously, not every single feminist is a shitty person. All the self-proclaimed ones I have met seem to be, though.

I think you may be confusing what a feminist is. Feminism isn't some secret, abnormal club we get cards for. We are just normal people who believe that women should determine our own lives and bodies. You'll have met thousands of us in your life, we just don't walk around with sticky labels on our foreheads saying "I'm a feminist!" In other words, all normal, rational people are feminists. If you don't believe your girlfriend should be paid less than her colleagues, forced to squeeze out a kid or made to share her body against her wishes, then you are a feminist too.

Sorry you ran into a toxic bitch, but the fact that she's labelled herself a feminist has nothing to do with it. Asserting so is as ridiculous as if I said all men were douchebags because several men I've come across have yelled out that they would like me to display my breasts.

I understand.

But I will say...I think my girlfriend should get paid what she deserves, and if her colleagues get paid more than she does, it's because they deserve to get paid more than she does. I don't think that they get paid more because they have a dick between their legs. I'm sure there are asshat employers out there who correlate sex with pay, but I think they are a minority, and that's just horrible business. There are so many factors that go into this "wage gap" that a lot of studies don't take into consideration. Good economists do not take the wage gap serious, and rightfully so in my opinion. If the majority of women actually got paid less to do the same exact job as their male colleagues, then why not hire only women?

As far as government dictating what a woman can and can't do with her body, I fully agree with you...Big middle finger to the government. I don't think government should have any say in such matters. Personally, I feel like if you want to be a piece of shit, it should be legal for you to be a piece of shit. I'm not saying women who have abortions are pieces of shit (I personally could give less than a fuck), I'm just saying women should have the right to go and get knocked up, and say, "screw this, I don't want to have this kid."

And rape...yeah that's just bad. duh.

So yeah..I back equality..and I guess that makes me a traditional feminist, cool, but I do not support this new wave of feminism. I think it has become less and less about equality. Maybe that's the minority of feminists today like Neal said, but I don't know that.

i do agree in sentiment, but seriously you'd need to be asleep to not recognize the systematic disadvantages women have in most parts of society. you say there's no wage gap? conveniently i don't need to worry about partisan viewpoints on this, my beautiful socialist government uses my tax dollars to fund studies to prove it. if you see any studies that say otherwise you might want to follow the money...

So if you're worried about the word feminism i think it's being used in place of equality until something resembling that happens.

I'm a feminist. Just saying.

This.

Most people are feminists. They just don't shove it down your throat.

I never said I don't think there is a wage gap. I am fully aware that there is one. The question is why. I've done plenty of unbiased research on this, and I'm not seeing how women are systematically oppressed here in the US.

Either way, this debate is much like beating a dead horse. My choice of words to start this thread weren't the best, but I have enjoyed reading the responses, especially between you and Jay (I should really memorize more names - I got Neal and a couple others...)

Honestly, all I can think of right now is how constipated I am, and how I wish I weren't.

Hi, John! I honestly thought you looked like a James.

My name's Brandon.

Oh, it says my name in my profile. That's lame. I wish I was more secretive than that.

It got one of them off a speeding ticket when pulled over and the cop asked for the names of all three, then for ID, then told them to gtfo of his county and never come back.
