Ah fuck. I can't keep up anymore. Rob doesn't seem to care anymore either. There are many ways it could have been controlled. But this thing of deleting anything from 500 - 1000 bots per day is a fucking joke. If there was an option to delete multiple bots it wouldn't be so bad, but having to do them 1 at a time? Sorry, but I've other things to be doing in my life.

I've just spent almost two hours deleting status-updates from spammers, probably five hundred or more, and not even two days worth. I've come to the conclusion that we must be perceived as populated by members who are badly in need of a loan however we have poor credit histories and are also unable to achieve an erection.

Yes. Three hours and fifteen minutes of deleting and I've only gotten into last Friday. At an average time of fifteen seconds per deletion that makes 840. And still hundreds to go. I'd think one of those simple "text what's in the box to prove you're a human" things when joining would make a tremendous difference. I'd been out of town for a week and couldn't believe how many there were this morning.

The writing has been on the wall for a long time now.
I delete comments and topics, but I don't have the power to ban people. I also don't think that's a solution to the problem, we should have better means to stop spambots registering, captcha and what not.
The truth is, the day we lost the tabs was the beginning of the end. It's inevitable. If we could get them back there's a chance for resuscitating this bloated corpse of a forum, but otherwise ti's toodle-pip.
It's been a fun ride.

Anyway, like I said, I'm done deleting from the status update area. I've wasted countless daily hours there. It needs to be removed, and a block on new members from posting weblinks. The captcha thing is already in place, but these bots have software for bypassing it, so while the captcha will act as a deterrent at best, it's pretty much useless.
Ironically, a few of the bots have made posts here advertising captcha bypass software like seriously, that's when you know you're fucked.

I guess all we can do is ignore the "status update" thing and just take care of the spam topics and posts themselves when they come up, which is a much easier thing to do. Whatever.....

a lot of internal teams (people who make things together i guess) use this app for communications. i use it for work and its pretty solid. just check out slack.com i dont want to post a link here cause who knows what will happen
point is, the community doesnt have to be lost, it just needs to move to a different location. with Slack, its not a forum-deep type platform, more multi thread like. short of making a new website i think its a good idea
I used to shred, now I draw.
