Hey. I posted here semi-frequently from 2003-2008. It was fun. Some of you were fun. I wasn't particularly memorable or anything, but I did get along quite well with some of the users here. Now, seeing the place so abandoned has me terribly, terribly vexed. I am incredibly vexed. A very vexing experience, tbh. 

 

My question is: do you guys keep in touch with each other in another location, like on a discord or something? I'm seeing some familiar usernames from my time here have not logged on in some 15+ years, and I just cannot continue on in life without knowing what happened to formative mentors from my youth such as folkgirl, irish_zach, and paulWAH.

 

Where is everyone? What happened to some of our favorite GTUers from back in the day? Did you enjoy Squid Game? Discuss. Solve for X.

Mandible - I heard he got really into the early 2000's and no one ever saw him again.

 

Improviduto - Probably became a teacher or something. He really enjoyed being a moderator of an internet forum. 

 

Haggis - Hopefully this legendary Discussion mod is still doing his thing and drinking beers. 

 

Pegasus - I couldn't speculate what happened to this man, but he was funny, a good songwriter, and deserves acknowledgement. 

 

DXL - I don't know, but I remember this name and found him very intelligent and good for band/tv recommendations. 

Squeezebox - Guy was really funny, but I don't remember much else about him. I hope he is happy wherever he is and still making offensive jokes. 

Gavin - It's been like 17 years and I still remember his song that went "beautiful giiiiirl, you rock my world, shot an arrow through my heaaaaart" right down to the melody. I hope he's famous now and I just haven't noticed bc I don't listen to radio. 

 

PaulWAH - Remember next to nothing about him, but this is another user I enjoyed interacting with in my day. For the sake of closure, we will say that he is a successful architect in Olympia, Washington. 

 

Garagerocker - Lived in Philly. Probably frequented the same bars that I did when I wasn't a boring dude with a serious job and a serious relationship. This is one of the ones that I wish I had exchanged contact information with back in the day. 

 

Pbaxtersomething - I wonder what happened to him. Okay, no I don't. 

 

AcousticSmash - Became the mayor of a small town in Canada. 

 

Mrbung1e - Got married to Folkgirl. They have nine kids.

we have a facebook group now. though i wish it were a different platform. i guess we'll never recapture the magic of the old forum

 

as for me, i had to decide if i wanted to be a musician or a graphic designer. i chose design and am currently working independently designing logos and brand IDs mostly for sports teams / brands. i worked with the miami dolphins for 3.5 years before this. still play guitar everyday and have really gotten into effects pedals in the past year.

I regularly tell people "there was this forum once where one could discuss anything, THAT is what the internet was about." and am not on any form of social media thus lost touch with all of y'all (then again even "irl" I'm quite discreet and apt at losing touch). I was very pleased to find my old computer still had an active login for this forum which I wrote down.

 

Currently, I live with my partner for 13 years and we got an insane(ly) fluffy orange cat. Therefor I vacuum daily. I make a living making computers do things for others. I write audio plugins and instruments available to the public (also in code) and release music nobody listens to. I'm alright.

Hey! I remember your name, good sir. I used to be Thederf, but some pud banned me out of boredom once so this is me now. I showed up here around the 04-05 era I think. I was (still am etc) annoying and boring. Always figured you sat at the GTU cool kids table and I was like "whoa" from the lowly spammer dungeon. Glad to see another GTUer is still out there.

Those names you mention bring back memories. I had totally forgotten about PBax. Man he was a fucking lemon. MrBungle tried to be the resident cunt, but he always ended up coming across as a clueless dick. AcousticSmash, wow, that guy got some amount of abuse. Same with Gavin. I think they just wanted to "feel the love" in the group, but it just wouldn't happen for them  . Squeezy was indeed quite a funny guy. He had like a bazillion different accounts.

funnily enough ive started watching sprung on amazon freeview (not a paid advertisement) and its got a knock off crab man character in it called Rooster, which made me think of you
