In Topic: Pedal Question:

The signal itself won't damage the pedal so don't worry about it.

BUT (there's always a but biggrin.gif ) you may damage the amp if you put too much output on the pedal. I suggest you turn the gain of the pedal down and slowly crank it up. IMHO you shouldn't go past the mid point. If you want a louder sound, all you'll have to do is crank up the amp and voilą!

Now you may found that the pedal suck up a bit of low end. It can be solve with a bit of EQing. Have fun with your new sound!

You may be hitting the frets. If that's the case a little adjustment of the bridge should solve the problem. But if you always get a very "high" sound that does sound like your hitting the strings with your finger nails it can mean that you have a lot of mid in your sound. If that's the case a little EQing were you'll boost the lows and turn back the mids will give you plenty of low ends!

Well he could actually start playing a regular scale if he wants. All he had to do would be to pluck the strings closer to the neck. Of course that is not the ideal position but as you said, he will grow up and then he will be able to play at the right position. That way you guys won't have to buy another bass in a couple of years.

Of course short scale is not a bad option either.

In Topic: long stretches

Some Iron Maiden songs kind of use a long stretch. The bridge in Rime of the ancient mariner comes to mind. But of course the better exercise for training your finger would be doing your scales. Try to do them on the same string moving your hand as little as possible. You"ll soon realize that the pinky is deffinetly not long enough wink.gif

Also a good exercise would be trying to squeeze a tennis ball with your little finger. You'll build strength in the finger making it that much easier to nail those stretch.
