Band: Guns 'n' Roses
Album: Appetite For Desctruction

1987 (Mobile Fidelity)

Members:

Axl Rose - Lead and Rhythm Vocal
Slash - Lead Guitar
Izzy Stradlin - Rhythm Guitar
Duff McKagan - Bass Guitar
Steven Adler - Drums and Percussion

Notable Tracks:

-Sweet Child O' Mine
-Paradise City
-Welcome to the Jungle
-Mr. Brownstone

While the entire album kicks major ass. Those are the best of the amazing tracks found on this album.

Appetite For Destruction is probably one of the more stunning debuts of it's time. Ranking with the likes of Van Halen, Jimi Hendrix and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Sadly, unlike the other two, their sophomore effort paled in comparison to the other artists aforementioned.
The band created a new image for heavy metal, looking just as trashy as Aerosmith and living just as trashily as the Rolling Stones. Guns 'n Roses combined more genres than just heavy metal. Drawing heavily on blues, rock, and sometimes even pop (on the power ballad, Sweet Child O' Mine).
The riff-work of Slash and Stradlin, trading off hooks, fills and solos, is quite a pleasing experience to the ear. The more famous riffs are found in the notable tracks, but in particular the most famous of these is by far, Sweet Child O' Mine.
The lyrical content of the album is sometimes overshadowed by the fact that it is metal, and the guitar work is too sweet to ignore. But Axl Rose's lyrics are a lot deeper than most think (though he's no Bob Dylan!). He deals with a lot of fear and loathing for the inner city (like on Paradise City and Welcome to the Jungle). He also does an ode to heroin (to which Slash later became addicted to) on Mr. Brownstone. One could even go so far as to say that Guns 'n Roses were/are the modern contemporaries of the Doors, exploring the negative sides of sex, drugs, rock and roll, and the general party life of L.A.
The album is among the best selling-debuts of all time, in fact it is among the top 30 albums ever released (according to 2001 stats, in U.S. only, worldwide sales are impossible to calculate). Beating other such debuts as Are You Experienced?, Van Halen, Pronounced Leh-Nerd Skin-Nerd, and even Led Zeppelin (I)
Sadly though, after their sophomore album, Use Your Illusion (I & II) the band started to splinter, with Slash leaving first. The band has regrouped, with a different name. Though Axl Rose continues to remain the sole original member in Guns 'n Roses, he continues to disappoint with his failure to show up for concerts and his sub-par performance.

This album merits a 9.5/10 simply due to the fact they weren't able to deliver the goods on their second album (not that it sucked, it's just that they were never able to match Appetite For Destruction)

#941242 BASS FORUM RULES

Posted by pauliejay on 29 December 2003 - 12:21 AM

Bass Forum RULES
Hello and welcome to the Bass Forum! Before you jump straight into the many discussions in progress here, please take the time to read and follow these guidelines to ensure that your experience here is not a frustrating one. You’ll find that we’re a friendly and helpful bunch towards those who follow the rules.

1. Keep it bass related. This means – questions or discussions about basses, bass amps, bass effects, bass equipment, the recording of bass, bass techniques, bass players (love ‘em or hate ‘em) and bass lines. Performance tips and general discussion of live performances you have either seen or participated in is warmly encouraged – but please keep it real. No fantasy stories here please. Please make requests for bass tabs in the TAB Request Forum.

2. Read the FAQ for information regarding purchases for beginners. Topics with titles like “I’m A Beginner, What Bass Should I Get” will not get a good response because it is a vague, repetitive and open ended subject. If you have a more specific enquiry about equipment for a beginner (e.g. you have a couple of different models of bass in mind) then feel free to post your question.

3. Lively debate is encouraged but outright abuse will not be tolerated. Opinions should always be backed up with some sort of argument or reason. It’s not good enough to say “This sux because I say so” or to engage in “Is not – Is so” style arguments. Pointless and circular mud slinging will result in the thread being locked. If you leave yourself open for a flaming due to outrageous or unsupported statements it’s nobody’s fault but your own.

4. No swearing. Words like “crap” or “ass” are OK, but no hard swearing. Posts will be edited and a warning issued. Continued swearing will lead to all of your posts being deleted from this forum.

5. No racism or sexism will be tolerated. This includes misuse of the word “gay” i.e. if it’s being used as an insult.

6. Absolutely NO pornography or links to pornography in posts will be tolerated. Do not post images that may be deemed offensive (whether sexual or political). Offence is in the eye of the beholder, and the onus is on YOU to be aware of other people’s sensitivities.

7. Please, no “Who’s the Best Bass Player” topics. They only start arguments. Feel free to talk about your favourite bass player and what it is that makes him/her your favourite.

8. Be aware of how you present your posts. WRITING IN ALL CAPS IS SHOUTING. Please use standard punctuation and spelling. No TyPiNg LiKe ThIs and please keep abbreviated spelling to a minimum. Be aware that the ages of the people using this forum vary widely, as do their nationalities. The more clear your posts the less chance they will be misinterpreted. Using the smilies will help demonstrate the intention of your post so make good use of them. Try running your text through a spell check before posting. The Moderator reserves the right to edit posts to aid comprehension, but don’t assume that this is a free secretarial service – just make the effort!

9. No spamming. This includes advertising material (unless it’s for your own CD), blind links to other websites, wordless posts, pointless posts, one word posts and unrelated posts. Direct links to EBay auctions of interest are OK. This is not to say that you can’t recommend a particular book or CD - of course you can. Please be aware of copyright principles if posting a link to a song or posting sections from a book or magazine.

10. If you find a particular post offensive, please send a PM to Taffaroo or Junior01 (or use the “Report” button in the post) and they will deal with it. Do not use the report button for minor disagreements. It is not there for tattling or for PMs.

11. Do not drag fights from other forums into the Bass Forum. I cite specifically the Hotrod69 vs Imme fiasco. This is a benchmark – keep it private and keep it out of here.

Breaches of any of the above rules may result in your post being edited, locked or deleted. Continued breaches may result in suspension of membership or outright banning.
Lastly, but by no means least…

12. Be cool! We’re all here for the same reason – we love bass.

(Any issues not dealt with here? Send a PM to Taffaroo or Junior01)
