Ah, the first show. You will be nervous... You will mess up... but do not let either of those facts alarm you. It is true, though. No matter how much you practice... you will mess up in the first show. Just keep going. Remember that not all the pressure is on you. Attention is going to the entire band, people may be paying attention to you, but they may be paying attention to the vocalist moreso. As it is your first show, I would say don't worry too much about stage presence (if you were... if you weren't... forget I said anything). Just be practiced and know that no matter what happens, you always need to follow the drummer (unless the drummer gets lost, in which case check your bassist, if the bassist and drummer are gone check your other guitarist, if all three are out... start playing Sweet Home Alabama.) Seriously, though... You should do fine, just try as hard as you can to pay attention to the music you're producing, and remember that everyone hearing you WANTS to hear you (at least for the first song).

I'm just saying I don't think "luthier" is a title like painter or carpenter is a title. I believe that if you can make a guitar out of blank pieces of wood, you are a luthier without that certification. Why? Because doing that is a very difficult skill. Much more difficult than painting a room of a house or building a chair. So if it works and it sounds good... there's no reason to say that the person that built it isn't a luthier.

Kaki King:

I have never heard of her until today... and I have not been this impressed by a steel string acoustic song... well... ever. Wow. It's not just the odd technique... but the song really had an awesome feel.

And I agree that the caprice is 10 times harder to play... but her technique has a few flaws... so I'd say 5 times harder because of that, tops. so maybe 50 times harder.

2nd one kicked ass.

As far as 99% of girls sucking... I only wish my guitar teacher Pam Kimmel had a video on youtube... she's definitely among the best guitarists I've ever heard. My girlfriend is pretty damn decent too... but not to the extent that Pam is. However, she can certainly pull off any children of bodom song... so that says something.

and as far as the girl that plays Paganin 24th... first off, that's really old... secondly... it's not that impressive she has a lot (LOT) of technique flaws (clickity click, as my guitar teacher would say). I will definitely agree that she outplays the rest, though. But not by 100 times.

I just don't get why this term "Luthier" is so unattainable. Building guitars as a hobby makes you a luthier in my book. If you have made a guitar, you're a luthier. It's not something that we should be sitting here bickering about. I believe it to be precisely the same as calling myself a guitarist. Am I entitled to call myself that? I guess not by Frankyz standards, I do not have a degree as of yet... However, I will still call myself as such, and I'd still call builtmyownbass a luthier.
