I'd done it, I've gone and done it.

Big step for me.

Neal is close to snapping. Truly snapping.  He's ready to become TwoFace, suddenly he'll start posting ads in Russian, telling me how to get Cialis, the best place for weaves and, of course, solve my ED problems...

Considering doing a Poetry Slam on Sunday night, which is either really cool or really lame, haven't worked it out yet.  Ha.

Did an open-mic night last night, first time performed as me for 10 years (as opposed to being in the band, and even then it was rhythm and only a couple of times).

It didn't go great - I was doing a song where I messed around with delay and for some reason my board reset itself.  Then I got a bit flustered. Pulled it back and everyone was very nice but felt deeply uncomfortable with how it went. Going to do it again next week, but going to do acoustic only, build up confidence and complexity.

I thought GTU was gone forever there.

Mixed feelings.

Also, RIP Robert Pirsig.

#3508667 U.K. General Election

Posted by Herr Rararr on 21 April 2017 - 12:14 PM

As most of you know I'm a Labour activist and will be voting (and campaigning for) Labour, but I'm no Corbynite. It's not just about agreeing with what he stands for, which Sixy understandably does, it's about competence and having the skills to be leader. It's about putting forward an agenda the country can get behind, and communicating that well. We're not doing these things well at present, and the polling figures are dire. I'll always be supporting Labour candidates but it's going to be very difficult for us to put it mildly.

Don't believe all the crap about a 'progressive alliance' either. There's nothing progressive about a Liberal Democrat Party that jumped into bed with the Tories and would do so again, or the SNP - who want a Tory victory, because it makes independence more likely. They are talking up a 'progressive alliance' - a clever piece of positioning, because they know English voters hate it. The idea of Labour needing to work with the SNP to keep the Tories out will gift elections to the Tories just like in 2015 and the SNP know it. As for the Greens, fuck 'em. Their top target seat is a Labour-held seat, they're not interested in beating the Tories.

A far more interesting question is why May has bothered calling one now. I have to say I think Blair was spot on in his Independent article - he said that she's called it now because at the moment the British public thinks Brexit is fine, that the predictions of doom and gloom simply didn't happen, the sky didn't fall in etc, but in 6 months' time that won't be the case. We're about to find out that it's going to be much tougher than the Leave campaign told us, that they lied to us; we're going to get a terrible deal and May has seen enough to know that. Someone made a good point on Twitter - just imagine how bad Brexit is going to be if May is prepared to throw away 3 more years of Jeremy Corbyn.

I'm not gonna lie, part of the reason I started this thread was to wake the political beast that is Richey.

I despise Corbyn for, as you say, not what he stands for, but his competence and leadership. It's so fucking depressing - Labour need to find someone who can lead. I liked Ed, I was sad Ed didn't get to be Prime Ed.  If I was back in  England I would vote for the Lib Dems - you're write, they're a fickle mistress but I can't vote for JC because I have no confidence he'd get anything done.

How does it feel prepping up for an election again (as in work)?

Also, May would be a moron not to call an election now - she gets a legitimacy to her premiership, she gets to claim Brexit as mandate of the people again and as you say, she gets to do it all before the shit hits the fan. Yes, there's that whizzing sound now, as it rushes towards it, and sure, we defintiely can smell the stench of fuck-tardedness, but right now people haven't noticed any tangible change since the referendum.

God, it makes me miserable.

#3508304 What ye NOT be listening to?

Posted by Herr Rararr on 07 April 2017 - 05:54 AM

The beautiful thing is everyone is right.

I like the Beatles, they sound great to me, I find meaning in their lyrics and their artistic development. I'm right.

Reese doesn't, he's right too.

Taste, really, is what it boils down to.

And Neal, swearing in America is hilarious, you realize how offensive the Brits & Irish can be. That being said I enjoy teaching swear words to my colleagues.

Bellend & bollocks are favorites.

Sure am, Frankzilla...www.soundcloud.com/christobaldo

Other people's talent motivates me, every time o get a bit cocky and think I've got lyrics or guitar licked I go to a local show and usually leave feeling very inadequate and inspired.

Nick Cave is the man.

At least you're talking about it, even if it is with us numskulls.

Do you still teach?

I guess the thing is there is no quick-fix Rick-feel-great program but as John said everyone here cares about you and if there is anything any of us can do you know we will.

Incidentally, Herr's top 3 albums for feeling maudlin (great word) to:

5 Leaves Left - Nick Drake

The Boatman's Call - Nick Cave

Closer - Joy Division

I'm sorry to hear it Rick.  Maybe busking again will help you find a new direction with music/performing?

You've always got your mojo here.

My wife went heavy on the ponchos and regular leggings.  I would sometimes pretend she was Clint Eastwood which she did not find amusing. Pfff.

Hey-oh, how the heck are you?

I came back nearly a year ago - there's a lot of solace here. And nerdiness.

Woggie passed away in 2013, Sharon (wizzywozza) passed away last year. Everybody seems to be having kids at the moment (guilty...2). Dadfad still looks after guitar q&a and haggis still pops in to buy a beer every now and then.

So, details, what part of the world/life are you conquering at the moment?
And here's a thread with a few more people coming back https://www.guitarzo...d-users/page-1#
