#3509702 U.K. General Election

Posted by gravity on 01 June 2017 - 04:50 AM

I never really understood why everyone was being so hard on Corbyn.  And now I really don't get it.

But anyway this election is a ridiculous cluster fuck.  I long for the days pre 2013 when us scots only had to worry about voting every few years.  I feel like I'm never fucking out of a polling booth.  Not that I don't appreciate that I can.

Yet again I find myself doing test drawings for crude abusive artwork I plan on adorning my ballot paper with next week.

#3503474 2016 US Presidential Election Prediction Thread

Posted by gravity on 11 November 2016 - 02:25 PM

I think the best reaction ive seen on this is the guy who wrote the peice about how we can all take solace in the fact that Trump is going to be miserable for the next 4 years.  He doesnt want to be working for the people he wants to be in front of a camera speaking shit.  meeting after meeting...briefing after briefing.  It isnt a business..........you cant delegate the presidency.

Anyway.........."meet the new boss, same as the old boss" is right i guess up until a point.  What Trump does or does not do doesnt change the message.  It doesnt matter if deports the illegals, messes with rights of minorities or builds the wall........it matters that he has given a voice to those who believe in that shit.  His presidency might pass without any real political change...... i just read on the bbc website that he is already backtracking on Obamacare....... but the platform he was elected on seems to have made it ok for people to shout racial slurs in the street.  I saw a guy id never seen before on some USA network talking about how he had to explain to his children that the new president was a bully, a racist, a sexist (and on and on)......all the things he had told his kids were wrong.....how that just seemed to undermine good parenting, common decency or whatever you want to call it.  Thats worrying.  Putting policy (what there is of it) aside there seems to be message here that being that flawed a character is ok.  What does that say about voters and non voters?  apparently millions thought it was fine and electable and millions more didnt care enough to stop it.

Hilary is a shit but a clean wipe.  Trump is a complete harling of the pan and its going to need some bleach.

As far as i can see in this thread nobody has mentioned soial media which quite frankly is ruining us.  I dont think there is anything more dangerous than a society that gets its news from twitter and facebook where the algorithms are tailoring promoted posts towards your point of view.  Nothing on your feed is random.  If you are constantly opening stories on trumps "winning" debate performances then thats what you are going to get consistantly rammed in your face.  It reinforces prejudice and helps convince you ........ yes you are right.  No balance.  Journalism is dead.  If you want accurate news you have to go and find it and that often requires reading the same story from several different outlets.  Its just propaganda and the right wing propaganda is just terrifying.

If there is one thing that can be said about Trump its that he is a master manipulator and unlike Hilary propertly understands social media.  America today is whatever twitter tells you it is.......and trump is always winning on twitter.  On the day of the election my twitter feed was pretty much Don Jr retweeting Breitbart the whole fucking day.  It was relentless.  "trump ahead" "dredge the swamp" "washington out of touch with the people" "trump only hope for change".  Some great counter peices from "legitimate" journalists but not really that accessible unless you plan on reading more than a paragraph.  The right however give you your news in managable soundbites and catchy slogans.....delivered straight to your phone.

America needs to just get on with it.  The world needs to get on with it.

I don't talk about this much but I've met DT on 3 different occasions. Shamefully I actually quite liked him. At the end of the day what you see is what you get.

It does give you a bit of a different perspective on how things are playing out. The one thing that always sticks with me was something we were doing was going public and it was going to be quite contentious. We were dreading it. Anyway when it hit the news it got buried as something more contentious had happened. We were all delighted. But DT wasn't. He was actually really annoyed that he wasn't in the news. What we didn't understand was that it didn't matter if the press was good or bad. To him it's all the same.

That experience really changed my outlook and these last few weeks.......well it explains a few things.

As for current events. Well it is terrifying. Not that he is saying what he is saying. To be honest I'm not sure he even believes half of it. It's just a character. The thing that is scary is how many people are getting behind it. Trump is not the problem. He is just giving lots of people with no hope and no voice an outlet.

Never dismiss him as an idiot. He is calculating

I read a wonderful article earlier that I have now lost about how he now has no intention of winning. He is now going to be a martyr. Lose and claim it's rigged. The claims have already started.

Feeding off that paranoia and conspiracy could split the Republican Party and give America it's own legitimate far right "trump" movement. Something that will give him much more "legacy" than the presidency.

It makes sense. He doesn't believe in politics. He only believes in his name

#3497609 EU referendum: In or Out?

Posted by gravity on 28 June 2016 - 06:18 AM

I've never much been a fan of Nicola Sturgeon.  As people often remind me I once declared that id vote for Scottish Independence if I was promised that she would be wheeled into the public square and beheaded...........  BUT......

Unlike anything in England she is actually providing leadership.  Scottish Parliament currently in session and motion tabled asking for the houses consent to open discussion with the UK Government, European governments and EU officials to discuss what options are now available to Scotland for staying in the EU.  Independence specifically not mentioned as although it is an SNP goal it isn't necessarily the only option for moving forward.  Unlike Westminster the Scottish Parliament is trying to explore options, reach agreements and sort things out.

Debate in the chamber constructive.  Tories trying to get support for an amendment ruling out independence but even Labour and Lib Dems seem to be against that.  Lib Dems and Greens clear that "every" option needs to be looked at.

Fed up of in party fighting.........come to Scotland where we are moving towards cross party consensus.

This is our future.  We cant sit back and wait for someone to have the guts to lodge Article 50.

#3497570 EU referendum: In or Out?

Posted by gravity on 26 June 2016 - 10:16 AM

Not that far off the mark. There was an article on the guardians website that voiced the same opinion. I tend to agree. Only Farage has really gotten what he wanted.

So I believe I posted on here before that an out vote would result in second Scottish independence referendum. But even I didn't think it would top the agenda so soon. Last time I voted to stay but like so many other people I know this time it's going to be for out.

The most disgusting thing about all this ......... The so called Bregretters. Some girl on the news saying "if I'd known this was going to happen if have voted to remain. I just voted to protest." I'm sorry but what fucking planet were you on.

I just know in my bones that this is the first significant event in what is going to be a chain spanning the next few years or decades that is going in end in something horrific. Next event ........... Trump

This one time when I was on a Cure kick I went to download the remastered Pornography.

In itself that was fine but messaged my then gf (current wife) to let her know. Publicly ....... On Facebook.

"I finally managed to download pornography" was maybe a little misjudged
And my phone managed to post that in the wrong thread. How does that work.

Oh well amusing none the less.

And six.......... Wind your neck in.

There is not much good about Facebook. For every positive there are many negatives.

But most of us WANT a picture of Gavins mum.  The digger would just be a bonus.

Infact a picture of Gavin driving a digger and using it to lift his mum would make me so happy that id just want to die.

having now stalked that twitter link that's not our Bax.

I was reading through some old posts the other day and found the one where he was boasting about have a girlfriend that was 20 years younger than him to which I said "your daughter doesn't count".............And he went absolutely ape shit.

I was very amused.  We need Bax back............The entertainment value was through the roof.  All it took was a little prod and he would freak out.

None interest in going out to anything.
