#106256 Finger vibrato......Learn it!

Posted by namrednef on 02 April 2002 - 09:21 AM

While reading and posting in the scalloped neck topic.....it occurred to me that we talk very little about finger vibrato.
...No offense to others.....but I think all the 'experienced' guitarists here have their ways and styles......and really think no more about it. BUT it's a very important tool for you to add to your playing.
...I saw a 'documentary' on EC while he was still with Cream....I saw it in like 67 or 68....and he plucked like a "D" note on the 'G' string and just kept up the vibrato(with amp sustain, of course) for about 30 seconds....did it for the interviewer.....then he said...."THAT'S the secret" in answer to her question.

Well that stuck with me for a long time and when I took up guitar....I started LEARNING (not trying) how to mimic the great vibrato I heard and saw. Many times...giving up...thinking I'd NEVER learn it.

But I can vibe with anyone now....sometimes I have to use 'my own' way to get the same effect.....but when you can toss a 32nd or even 64th note vibe in at the right time......wow......that's all I can say.....wow......
